‘Am I a Wolf?’ to compete at Oscars 2021

Iranian animation ‘Am I a Wolf? is among 96 short animations to compete at the 2021 Oscars.

Iranian animation ‘Am I a Wolf?’ has been selected as one of the 96 short animations to compete at the 93rd edition of the Academy Awards.

Winning awards at the 2020 Hiroshima International Animation Festival and the 2019 International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film in Germany made the animation qualified for the Oscars.

Every year, the festivals that are confirmed by the Oscars propose some of their winners to compete at the prestigious gala.

Directed by Amir-Houshang Moeen, ‘Am I a Wolf?’ has competed at more than 30 international festivals and grabbed 15 awards.

Made based on a fantasy book by Afsaneh Shabannejad, the short animation is a recreation of the classic fable titled ‘The Wolf and the Lamb’.

In the short animation, a number of students are performing a theater titled ‘The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats’. Everybody has a role.

They are totally getting carried away by their roles in a way that the border between reality and theatrical performance is now hardly realized.

Meanwhile, the child acting as the wolf in the story is scripted to be defeated. That makes him feel lonely and annoyed.

As he takes his role too seriously, a bit of chaos startles the group. In the end, the presence of other children and his friends next to him take him out of this mood.

Due to the situation caused by coronavirus pandemic, the 2021 edition of the Oscars has been postponed until April 25.
